The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) of 2006 (“the Act”) prohibits any individual or business engaged in betting or wagering activities from knowingly accepting payments related to unlawful internet gambling. This Act is enforced through Regulation GG, jointly issued by the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Federal Reserve Board.
In line with Regulation GG, “unlawful internet gambling” refers to placing, receiving, or knowingly transmitting a bet or wager through the internet where such activity is prohibited under applicable federal or state laws in the jurisdiction where the transaction is initiated, received, or completed.
